Hand Plane Thickness Jig

HPT – Hand Plane Thickness Jig

When your parts are too small for a power planer, or you just don’t have one, then having a jig to do it by hand is the way to go.  While this style of jig is nothing new, the Black Walnut Studio Inc. version comes assembled, ready to use and is made with high quality hardware and carefully sourced wood.  Large head bolts eliminate the need for washers and have greater holding power.  Bolts are driven into inserts that eliminate wear and tear on the base.  Each side runner is captured by 3 bolts for a positive lock without the need to over tighten.  The end stop uses the same fasterners and is also fully adjustable.  A hex key is included to make all your adjustments and stores on board the jig.  The core is made with either European beech or quarter sawn Douglas fir depending on availability.  Side panels are made of 5 layer 1/4″ baltic birch.

A great way of making sure Kumiko pieces have a consistent thickness.  The jig also makes a great base for regular planing of thin stock.

Jack plane models are 23″ long.  Block plane versions are 16″ long.
